Couple Arrested for Starving their Children to Death, Used Foodstamps for Crack

A Florida couple has been charged with child abuse after it was revealed that they kept their children in horrifying conditions and administered regular beatings. They used their food stamps to buy crack covaine. When their twin boys were discovered, it’s said that they were as thin as a skeleton.

27 year old Kimberly Haygood and her 30 year old boyfriend Anthony Jones were arrested after Detective Megan Buck said she found their children in appalling conditions. Their four year old twin boys were found so underfed, they weighed the same as an 11 month old baby while their six year son is said to have been beaten.

The oldest boy was beaten with a belt so badly that he was reported to have scars all over his body. All three were found malnourished and dehydrated and their six year old son said that their father would beat the twin boys when they soiled themselves.

Police had been alerted to the suspected child abuse when the Department of Children and Families tipped off the Sarasota Police after the All Children’s Hospital reported a severely underweight child had been brought into the hospital in St. Petersburg.

Both Haygood and Jones are being charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse as well as child neglect with great bodily harm.

Each parent has received one additional charge as well, Haygood being charged with another count of child neglect while Jones is charged with child abuse.

Since the arrest, all three children have been taken into foster care by the state. It’s believed that the young children were only given water as no traces of food were found in their system.
